This theory encounters a mixed perception among professional cosmologists. The problem with it is that it is just like the simulation theory, or the multiverse theory, or one of the multitude of brane theories: it does not give any physical predictions, it just tries to describe the world in an intuitively understandable way. It is an interesting mental experiment, and it could potentially lead to simplification of mathematical expressions used to describe the observable phenomena - but in the end, it is just a way to look at things, it is not a very useful theory in terms of practical applications.
