NYT op-ed

Debate Information

I found it really surprising that everyone seems to be taking the NYT anonymous op-ed seriously, particularly Trump and his supporters. This is a paper that has been consistently bashed for "fake news." Wouldn't it be so convenient to claim an anonymous source when you are making up news?

Let's say this is fake news. That would mean they got the exact reaction they wanted. Paranoia and accusations being thrown around between people in the administration.

I feel like this would be such an easy place to claim fake news, but then why hasn't the administration made that claim? Does this have any implication on other times fake news has been claimed, or is it completely unrelated?

I think people talk about this story because they want there some drama to be. Personally, I do not see any reason for myself to do speculations about how the world works based on unfounded claims from allegedly an anonymous (possibly non-existing) source.

It is sad that the politics in the US have been reduced to this. Instead of discussing policies based on facts, we fight each other over random accusations, as if presumption of innocence was no longer at the core of our legal system.

I do not think NYT is "fake news" (nor do I accept this term popularized by our dearest Mr Orange), but they certainly have been deviating from their historically strong journalist ethics for a while now.
