    It would be nice for Europeans to step up to the international stage and contribute to the allied forces in a meaningful way. As it stands, only the UK and France have armies that provide any substantial assistance to the US forces in military operations and wars, while everyone else enjoys the peace they have not earned.

    The question is whether it is realistic. The current status quo is hard to break up. Trump tried doing it, but his lack of diplomatic prowess prevented him from achieving anything. Maybe the next president will do better?

    @MayCaesar

    You say .....while everyone else enjoys the peace they have not earned

    My reply .....My country has and always has had a position of neutrality........ Irish neutralityIreland has been neutral in international relations since the 1930s. ... Historically, the state was a "non-belligerent" in the Second World War (see Irish neutrality during World War II) and has never joined NATO, although during the Cold War it was anti-communist and aloof from the Non-Aligned Movement.

    I never realised I had to “earn “ the right to peace I like others in my country take it as a given
