Life that exists at the quantum, but not macroscopic, level has to be very different from life we are so used to interacting with. I do not think we can even categorise it in any meaningful way, and if it existed nowadays, we probably would not recognise it as life.

I do not think the idea is that far-fetched, I just do not think that it exists in the same domain as our regular physics, so to speak.
