Students shouldn't be required to wear uniforms at school. Uniforms can become expensive and many families don't have much money to spend on clothes. You cannot buy just one uniform and wash it every night. That is not plausible. If families can choose their clothes they have options if they want to buy cheaper.

Alicia Thomas, former student at Lower Dauphin High School (Hummelstown, PA), wrote in her May 31, 2009 op-ed titled “The Case against High School Uniforms."

“While uniforms do assuage the best-clothes competition, they create a new and more painful contest: the best-body competition. When every student is wearing the same uniform, everyone fills it out differently. They can expect to be ridiculed for not looking as fantastic in their uniforms as some of the better-looking students. And this could be catastrophic for anyone with a less-than-perfect image of themselves… There’s also the problem of students’ squelched individuality."

Infringing upon students' rights to express themselves and find clothes that suit them, should be left up to the child and their family.
