One this article is assuming that the communities he is referring to are communities of color.

Two communities that chase police away and disrespect them every chance they get may end up being avoided by police.  Not out of retaliation but out of a feeling of their own personal safety.  Who would blame them?

@YeshuaRedeemed ; I policed the City of Houston, TX for 31-years. During my early years with the PD my assignments included one of the largest LGBTQ communities in the United Sates, the Montrose, and I also policed the slum-Black neighborhoods of the 3rd and 4th-Wards on the southwest and southeast portions of Downtown Houston. Crime was incredible and the calls-for-service, on certain shifts, were at times - endless. The suffering, the hate, the murder, the blood, the children...these communities were not areas that always welcomed a police presence but officers knew that in the thick of the hopelessness there were good and decent people, families, that were trapped among the godless thugs who were destroying themselves in hate; therefore, those communities were not only policed but they received special attention; leniency for the suspects was rare. Trips back-n-forth to the city jail were routine on busy nights and evenings.

If a law enforcement entity does not police a community because of hate or fear of retaliation, those officers should find another job apart from law enforcement or find a police department with an administration possessing the courage to do what must be done to protect the innocent from the thuggery that is rampant and deadly in our large municipalities in the United States.

During my recruitment period in 1979 for the Houston PD, ethical - moral standards were incredible. Homosexuality - a criminal record was an immediate disqualification and any form of moral misconduct would not be accepted...the polygraph was used to check for any form of behavior that might embarrass the Houston PD should an applicant be hired. Houston PD, during the 1970's and early 1980's, was a hard-charging PD and the street-thugs trembled during interviews/interrogations; criminals-thugs feared the Houston Police, but beginning in 1983...liberal mayors appointing liberal police chiefs were regularly voted into office by a liberal, gay, financially elite society in Houston and Affirmative Action mandates and Community Policing mandates and eventually LGBTQ-hiring mandates polluted my police department and ethical, moral, physical, psychological, standards were lowered in order to hire unqualified minorities - homosexuals - lesbians - thief's; eventually, the Houston PD became a melting-pot for LGBTQ, unqualified minorities - women - lesbians - feminists - liberals and pro-active policing became a thing of the past...now, the thugs rule and the liberals - queers dictate policy via political correctness and liberal insanity.

So then, it's not the communities in Houston that stymie law enforcement effectiveness, it's progressive-socialist-LGBTQ perverts in positions of authority in both the mayor's office and the police department that have destroyed proactive policing in Houston, Texas; this, while the innocent and hopeless suffer and the thugs laugh and mock.

I believe this is fair. Why should police officers have to protect people that give them no respect? If you are disrespectful to someone, they won't help you. Simple as that. You must respect those you are served by. You are lucky to live in an area with an uncorrupted, widely distributed and reputable police force. Why wouldn't you respect them?

Yes, as long as they are refunded their taxes. If someone wants to opt out of the public police coverage, then they should get their money back, so they can use it to hire a private police force.

If we are paying our money for police coverage, then we get to respect or disrespect the police employees however we want. The police officers are our employees, not our masters, and are to do our bidding whether we respect them or not. Or they can always quit their job if they do not like it.

@RickeyD How is any LGBT member "unqualified" and related to a street thug because of their sexuality? How are they any less capable of police work? Please produce any shred of evidence to support this claim instead of your fantasy you created working there.

Back on topic: Why should the police have the power to choose who to protect? "Protecting" is enforcing the law of the land and without anybody to enforce it then nobody would follow the law. If a police officer is so sensitive about how people feel about them I don't think they should be in the police force in the first place.

If a federal police force feels threatened, then feel free to leave and leave it to a private business, then lower taxes.
    why so serious?
  • I believe that no matter if you were disrespected you should protect that person or group of people. My father was a police officer in Springfield Missouri, Brisbane Australia, and Sunshine Coast Australia. He used to tell me that he would do anything to protect anybody no matter who they were or what they might have done to him. I don’t think that it’s fair in real life. It might make sense in your head but if you stood by and watched a officer do nothing about a shootout at some random maccas you would want them to save the people inside right?
  • Maccas means McDonald’s for my non-Aussie people out there
  • It would be interesting to see this out in the actual world, but I don’t thin k it would work. Anyway, cops are hired to protect and uphold the law, no matter who it is that they are upholding it for. Sure you can scream the police, but they’ll protect you when you call

I don't care, you don't have the right to force someone to respect you. Respect is not a right, security is.
