Democrat strategy... 1st. - create Government dependents, 2nd - end Electoral College.

Debate Information

The Democrat Party has succeeded in their first goal of creating huge numbers of Government dependents. There are many many millions of Government dependents now living off welfare, food stamps, medicaid, etc., etc.
This is critical when attempting to transform a nation to Socialist control of the people. The problem they are having is that the vast majority of these Government dependents live in large Liberal Democrat controlled cities.

Because of this, Democrat Politicians have a stranglehold in Liberal Democrat Controlled blue States such as New York and California, but little control in the vast majority of Red States.

The next part of their strategy can only be achieved by transforming our Constitution, which guarantees every State a fair voice in our Federal elections. The Electoral College remains a thorn in their side.

If you have been paying attention, the Democrat Party is now speaking out against our Constitutional guaranteed Electoral form of Presidential elections. They want our Presidential elections decided by the popular vote, thereby silencing the voices of millions of Americans living in less populated Red States.

Those on the Left will say that these people still get to vote, thereby having an impact on elections. The problem is that Politicians will pay little attention to these smaller States, and spend all their time pandering to the States with greater populations.
Which States will be garner favors from Politicians when it comes to making Federal laws affecting all States?

Were it not for the Electoral College, the Democrat Party of identity politics would totally ignore these less populated States. The founders of our Constitution understood this simple fact.
As always, Democrats do not care for all Americans. They care only for those Government dependent votes in large populated inner cities.
This would lead to even more disdain for the working man, with Politicians spending more of our income pandering to those living off Government.

Republicans have always understood the importance of all Americans having a voice in laws affecting their own State's.

Pay attention as we listen to biased news pushing for the dismantling of our Electoral College in the coming years.

    All Americans having a voice?

Because of the electoral college my state turns blue every presidential election and even if I were to vote for Trump this November it would mean nothing because individual voices don't matter, only what the entire state ultimately decides and my vote is thrown out :joy:

There are flaws with both systems:
Popular vote will garner votes for those big states like you said and smaller states don't get much of a voice
Electoral college throws out the individual vote for the majority vote and turns votes into a winner-takes-all system

But here's the catch, why is it that the electoral college divides electoral votes by population? Wouldn't it make more sense for all states to have the same electoral votes if you want equal representation? California gets upwards of 55 votes and states like mine only get.... 2-3 votes. It still severly favors larger populations in both systems.

    why so serious?
  • I agree with you on some of your points. I also live in a State that always votes Democrat and feel my vote is wasted.

Lets say we inacted your idea of every State having the same electoral votes, and lets say a small State such as Road Island became the destination for every Muslim in America. Lets say they wanted a Theocracy in America, as they have in Arab nations. This would become a problem.

I do not thnk that giving a few people such a large voice over the majority would be the way to go.@smoothie

@We_are_accountable It truly is an interesting problem, I agree that if you gave huge power to smaller populations then larger population votes would have extremely less of a voice.

I cannot think of a perfect system that gives equal representation to every American without power shifting in a weird direction. The voting system truly is complicated even when there are only two options on the ballot (realistically, haha).
    why so serious?
  • Yes, so I guess we are left with what the founders beieved was best. One thing I know for sure is that without the Constitution guiding our politics, we would be at each other's throats and there would be more civil wars.@smoothie
