Are Atheists Arrogant To State God Doesn't Exist?

Debate Information

I don't think it is arrogant to state that God doesn't exist.

Due to the facts that:
....... there is absolutely no evidence to support the existence of God.
.......all "official" accounts of God (e.g. the Bible and the Quoran) lack credibility and authentication.
.......accounts of creation, the cornerstone of religious belief, have been well and truly disproven and discounted.

Atheists have every right to say "God does not exist" for the same reason it is for anyone to say "fairies don't exist" or "a pot of gold under the rainbow does not exist".

Countering with arguments such as "cannot be disproven, therefore there is a possibility" and "beyond the physical world" are so wildly speculative and grasping at straws that one also has the right to call such conjecture absurd or at best, delusional.

I totally agree. I don't think it's arrogant that an atheist (or anyone else), doesn't believe in ghosts, spirits, fairies, angels, cherubs, etc., so why should it be arrogant to not believe in God? I don't believe in God and I'm not arrogant about it .... unless, maybe, someone gets arrogant with ME! I have NO PROBLEM if someone wants to believe in a god. Have at it! Just don't tell me I'm a rapist, immoral, leftist socialist, murdering child molester, simply because I don't believe in YOUR "god" (no matter which one you choose)!  So far it's only believers in one particular right wing "god" that does that. Same "god" from the left wing .... no problem.

I CAN get arrogant, like most people, but I try hard to not be. I don't like reducing myself to that level. Unlike our last President, when they go low, I'm likely to go lower. My apologies. :smirk:

Atheists don't suffer simply from arrogance but the Holy Spirit has articulated that atheism does not exist and that every "atheist" is a , a "fool," "without excuse." Every man and woman having attained an age of reason possessing at least a modicum of mental acuity, commonsense, wisdom, discernment, intuitively knows our Creator exists. Granted, the facade of atheism, those who adhere to its absurdity, may not know our Creator's "Name" but they know this supernatural Universe and our complex genome mandates design and a Designer.

Arrogance comes not from a statement itself, but from the intent behind it. The claim that god does not exist is a statement of fact, whether true or false; the moral implications behind it might be connected to arrogance, however.

Someone might say, "All these religious people talk about god, but I am much smarter than them and now the truth. I do not care about all their arguments; my own opinion is all I need, because I am much more intelligent than all of you" - that would be arrogant.

Someone else might say, "I have not seen any evidence to conclude that god exists, hence I will stay that it does not" - that would not be arrogant.

I will say that the position of some religious people is arrogant, in the sense that they constantly claim that the god's design is beyond mere mortal comprehension, yet keep teaching everyone about various details of that design, as if they are more than mere mortals and can comprehend it, unlike them.
If you truly believe that god is so much above you in intelligence, then you must be the first to admit that you have no idea what god's intent is, how god judges people after death, etc. The logical implication of that is that you do not know what is moral and what is not, what is virtuous and what is not, etc., because, even if the god has defined these concepts, you are not able to comprehend them.

I don't mind arrogance, humans are fundamentally arrogant, that is, disposed to exaggerate one's own worth or importance... It's probably part of the survival instinct, it's something we all have to different degrees...

Theists are arrogant in their claim to knowledge of the existence of god, I guess it's as arrogant to claim knowledge of its non-existence... Either way arrogance doesn't matter, fact is, our universe can be explained without the existence of one, there could still be one but he's demonstrably not needed so...

Evidence once collected can disappear, evidence can be destroyed, the evidence simply may never be collected. Thank you for the official admission of prejudice.
