Do Closet Homophobes Exist?

As we all (should) know, we have "closet racists" who will never admit to their cowardice but will always say, "I'm not a racists BUT somebody told me about how bla..........., then follows a load of gut-wrenching diatribe.
So, does society also have homophobes who prefer to hide in the closet?
For example, "I don't hate gays, I just don't like what they do".
Or how about, "I've heard on good authority that they have a medical condition and need to get treatment."
Then there's the good ole favourite, "It's not natural you know".
Of course there's the subtle swipe, "They chose to be like that".
Oh, I almost forgot this one, "I'm not one to pass judgment BUT it is written......."
Like closet racists, is there a sub-culture of closet homophobes intent on spreading malicious misinformation throughout decent, civilised society?
