Relying on oil is a national security threat.

If there’s anything I’ve learned from the past few months, it’s that our reliance on oil is dangerous. Namely, foreign oil. The majority of our oil is produced by opec, an organization which mostly consists of easily aggravated autocracies, who just so happen to not like America. So whenever one of those countries feels like it, or maybe multiple at once, they can just straight up cancel oil trades and we would be reeling. In fact, that’s kind of what’s going on now, and prices for oil ran up to 5 dollars a gallon. The fact that we are so reliant on foreign oil is dangerous, no matter what political or economic ideology you possess. Not to mention that the use of oil is producing emissions, which produces more global warming, which further dries up our land, which EVEN FURTHER increases our cost of not just oil and gas but ALSO our groceries and food products. All around, relying on flaky and autocratic nations for oil is a bad idea, so we seriously need to start considering being energy independent and stop relying on such a dangerous supply which continues to dwindle the more we use it.
