Should the U.S. have struck Syria last night?

Debate Information

Last night, the U.S., France, and Britain collectively stuck targets in Syria related to the chemical weapons attacks that occurred earlier this week.

Will this strike deter Assad from employing chemical weapons (assuming he did use them)?
Also, is this action constitutional, given that the military action requires Congressional authorization?

Assad will hurt his people in other ways but as is apparent from North Korea to Saudi, it's never about the abuse of power it's about how friendly the power is to other powers. SA and NK can abuse their people as they see fit.

    No.

This attack will only lead to more resentment and future reprisals in some shape or form.

None of the states that took part in this action, sought the backing of either their populace or governments. We sank to the same level as the Assad regime.

At the moment Russia holds the high ground, it will be interesting to see what move they make next.

    Let's hope tensions don't escalate!

No, we shouldn't have done it.

I think so because of Russia's and Iran's capabilities and possible retaliation. They can easily use their cyber weapons and Russia could use their Atomic bombs.

    Tensions can easily escalate.

@joecavalry Firstly, there isnti verifiable evidence that Assad was behind that attack. In the face of doubt, one should be cautious rather than make hasty decisions.

Secondly, what was accomplished? Nothing happened when the US struck Syria last year -- there's no reason to assume something will happen this time.

The U.S., United Kingdom, And France correctly executed air strikes in Syria. The countries proved that chemical weapons wouldn’t be tolerated.

I am just happy Trump did not confuse Syria and Iraq again. Last year he did it after we bombed Syria.
