Science says that even the lower forms of animals can have a mental illness.
Hello m:
That's probably true.. However, evolution is about survival of the fittest. Therefore, animals with mental diseases tend to fall off the evolutionary ladder.
So, mental illness, or the lack thereof, has everything to do with evolution.
really there is no proof that evolution in animals tend to favor those with mental illnesses. It would depend on how the animal lives and adapt to life and mental illness does not follow that if an animal has one, it would kill that branch off. @jack

Hello maxx:
Evolution takes place over millions of years.. I suppose out of the zillions of animals that lived and evolved during that time, some of them had mental disease.. Because there are fitter beings than the nutty ones, their branch will die out.
Why? Evolution cares littke if one is mentallyill, and it is physical on survival of the fittest. There is nobreason to claim that being normal is any better for survival than be off in the head. In fact, being off may benefit many animals. @jack
