Or, could it be that Dawkins will be revered as such more after his death as with previous examples such as Elvis, Jesus, and Muhammad? I suppose we could say the converse about Hitler who was lauded as savior to the people during his life but who bombed out badly as being a kindred spiritual figure to be admired posthumously.
We already know the enormous achievements of Dawkins in freeing the minds of people all over the world through numerous TV shows, books and lectures. But what does seem to set him apart from others is that he knows what he is talking about which is appropriate in our modern days of freedom of information...he is a man of our times. It would not really cut the mustard nowadays for people to listen to a drifting carpenter/fisherman or a lowly-ranked corporal, despite the amount of charisma they may have.
You would not exactly describe Dawkins as a charismatic yet, people sit up and listen to him because he is well qualified in his field; he is extremely thorough with his research, logic, reasoning and imparting facts rather than loose, warm and fuzzy rhetoric.
Is this the sort of person we should all be listening to?
