I love the stuff and I spread it on my toast every morning. The holy grail of all honey must surely be Manuka which can sell for over two hundred bucks a jar.
But, is it any good for your health? I think not, in that it comprises mostly sugar with a bit of water and a few impurities which give each type of honey its unique flavor.
Yet there are those who will swear by the "healing" properties of honey. For example, there are actually a few odd bods who think that honey is great for putting on wounds and that the "anti-bacterial" properties will prevent infection.
Well true...since the viscose liquid will actually seal the wound, preventing air-borne germs from entering the body. But ah, so will putting a dressing on the wound or a piece of cling film for that matter, and the hospital nurses won't have to clean the stuff off, causing great agony to the patient....."Hey Mary, we got another one of those loonies just admitted with honey all over his bleeding arm....hee, hee, hee.... this is going to be fun."
So, what health benefits does honey have? Absolutely none, except that New Zealand bee-keepers must have healthy bank accounts.
