The US cannot keep running in a negative trade deficit. As some point America has to balance the checkbook, we have for years been writing checks that we can't pay. At some point, a negative trade deficit will cause the collapse of the American dollar.
WTO is a questionable organization, with a lot of regulations aimed at benefiting certain private parties and political groups, as opposed to the world trade. That said, just like with the case of UN membership, it is better to be a member of WTO than not to be, because it streamlines a lot of processes, improves the negotiation leverages for the involved nations and possibility of collective actions (such as sanctions) against the undesirable entities.
I do not think leaving WTO would be a good choice for the US, but I do think the US should take a harder stance for its ideals within WTO and try to change it to better reflect the Western values.
