all of are actions and all of our thought are controlled by the old brain; so free will is an illusion. Everything that we do, say, and how we act are nothing more than off-shoots of an old animalistic brain and it controls everything we do.
But simple logic. Everything we do is related to the old brain survival. For instance, going to the store is based upon the primitive brain instructing us to go hunting. Even Having fun is based upon the old brain telling us to relax and rest.@WinstonC
The important thing is that it's part of the "evolution process", as our bodies evolve, so do our brains. Over time our "animalistic brain" will likely GET control of "everything we do". After all, we used to DRAG women into our caves, then we started wheeling them in. Eventually, we'll put out an "illusion" and they'll come to us of their own "free will"!? Anyway, that's how THIS "old brain" sees it.>:)
You must be joking. The idea of early man dragging women around came right out of comics. Also, the old brain has not evolved as much as one would believe. It still sends out the same basic survival instructions such as hunting, eating, shelter, flight/flight, mating, communicating with others and so on. The new brain simply acts upon these instructions in a way that we are familiar with today. We go to a store or a restaurant, go home, sleep, go dating or get married, have children and communicate ideas to others. The new brain takes instructions from the old brain and free will is an illusion created by the new brain.
@maxx Instincts and consciousness are separate phenomena. If instincts governed everything then there would be no evolutionary need for us to evolve consciousness.
No matter how you look at it our lives are ruled by instinct. All of our thoughts, and all of our actions are ruled by instinctive behavior. See every thought that we have can be traced back to instinct urge. @WinstonC
