  • Do Christians have a warrant to say they are the "true" religion?

    @RickeyHoltsclaw

    I have told you the Truth...Jesus is Messiah who died for you and unless you believe this with a sincere heart, you will die in Hell.
    It's not the words but the delivery of them and the focus on death and hate and dogma, which I don't think you fully understand.

  • There is nothing inherently wrong about rape, debate me

    My reasoning for this is that rape is a form of sexual intercourse. Sex is only meant to reproduce and NOT to consider the feelings of a side. The desire to reproduce is backed up by the need for pleasure, therefore we shouldn't consider the feelings of someone when involved in rape.

    Sounds like someone rationalizing their ulterior impulses. Even other animal species exhibit consensual behaviour. Rape, by its very definition as a non-consensual act, cannot be justified or normalized by biological imperatives alone.

    God Bless Donald Trump and may every atheist-secular humanist-democrat-progressive find the path to Hell unimpeded.

  • Is Christianity a copy cat religion?

    @MayCaesar

    That's a good theory. Usually the only reason I know someone is Christian is because they invite you at some point to a service or church function but other than that they act like normal decent intelligent people. Family excluded of course.  :) At the same time most don't know who is and who isn't atheist when dealing with everyday people. And you're right I believe, with most Christians the interest is nominal, more of a tradition than a way of life; and atheists? For them I've realized it doesn't come up much in life at all except on debate forums. Because religion has no role in our lives but still the compulsion to reject outright fantasy when exposed to it on platforms such as this it too great to ignore indefinitely. Especially when the ones asserting myths as truths do so in disrespectful and combative ways.

  • bird behavior

    I Intend to agree, i think they have a genetic blueprint that creates a need to build a nest, as well as what it should look like, yet the actual building is trial and error.  As for the rest of the replies i got. It's so inane as how they take a normal debate like this, and turn it instantly into a religious argumen. Talk about trolls.@MayCaesar

    He is just the kind of person who is deeply ingrained in his thinking and has trouble understanding any argument that does not align with his vision. It is common for religious people, although neither exclusive nor universal.

    There was a cool exercise one high school teacher had us do. We would express our opinions on something and find a disagreement - and then we would switch the roles and argue the best case for the opponent's position. For instance, suppose I believe that women should have equal rights with men, while my opponent believes that they should not. We would switch the roles, I would make the best argument I can for why women should have fewer rights than men, and my opponent would argue for equality. It was extremely eye-opening: not only would we gain respect for our opponents' positions by finding good arguments in favor of them, but we would strengthen our own positions by finding flaws in them and correcting for them.

    Doing so though takes guts, especially in the debate setting. It is much easier to simply assume that everyone who disagrees with you is smoking something, and semi-intentionally misunderstand their arguments.

    Rape is a crime because it is an act of violence.  Rape violates the sanctity of the victim.  Rape is about power and control.  It is not an act of mutual consent.

    The underlying logic of the argument is bad.  It seems as if the argument is suggesting that if we just redefine acts of violence in more favorable terms then it is OK to commit them.  If we said murder was OK, because it reduced global warming emissions, would it be OK to do it then?  If we said theft was OK, because it was giving to the poor and needy, would it still not be wrong?  In the same way these acts of violence would still be wrong because they are acts of violence, rape would still be wrong because it is an act of violence.  The interests of the victim are ignored by the argument, and in so doing, the victim is  dehumanized.  Her rights as an individual are ignored.  She is considered as something less than human, and only what she can contribute to some evolutionary goal is considered.

  • Climate change; fact, scam, or both?

    @ChristianSollers

    Very objective view, I commend you. That's the crux of the problem. Extremes on both sides of this topic are only interested in screaming the loudest. Yes scum on the left exploited the thing before we had a good understanding. Of course the right responds with their extremism thinking we can dump pollutants in the air at will with no consequences. One look at a smoggy city tells us that ain't true. And with one in four copd patients being non smokers we can't deny the effects we ARE having.

    Long-term exposure to particulate matter PM 2.5 and nitrogen dioxides increases your risk of developing COPD. Sources of PM 2.5 are motor vehicles, factories, powerplants, wood burning and wildfires. Exposure to poor air quality worsens symptoms and accelerates lung function decline in adults, especially if you have other risk factors for COPD. https://www.lung.org/lung-health-diseases/lung-disease-lookup/copd/what-causes-copd

    Most want to phrase the argument as such: Climate change is too big for humans to stop, it's a cycle, or that we've accelerated the cycle and we can slow it down. Those are political positions. But as noted above from the American Lung Association we are having an effect on our environment that makes it very feasible that the cycle of climate change we're experiencing could be effecting us in negatives ways it might not be if we weren't polluting our planet. The science leads us to conclude we need to stop polluting. The problem is too many political and/or economic interests blur the lines.

  • Do Christians have a warrant to say they are the "true" religion?

    @RickeyHoltsclaw

    Thanks for the tip! I am new to the site and it's a little tricky to navigate.

    Christianity, theologically speaking, is the antithesis of religion. Again, I listen to the Holy Spirit and His presence in my life is more tangible than the air I breathe and applicable sensory input from the environment that engulfs me. Only those who know Elohim intimately and possess His Spirit understand what I am trying to convey to you who are absent life and knowledge that is only available through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
    Well, most of the planet may disagree with you about that point! But, I agree, Christianity is a bit of an epistemological mess. Being able to define your own god seems to be the most basic of things to get right! That said, the Holy Spirit is a Christian invention so I'm not clear where you are getting the idea of that from, if not Christianity.

    Your vocabulary is neither Jewish, Christian nor Islamic, so which Bible and which translation are you getting your knowledge from?

    A true Christian born again by sincere faith has no challenges concerning who our Creator is, His divine eschatological purposes concerning Time and Eternity...we have peace with Elohim in Jesus and the Holy Spirit that indwells us is the most precious Gift ever provided humanity...He must be experienced to understand my words....you cannot possibly know in your fallen state nor can you believe because the god of the World, Satan, has blinded you.
    Well, Satan was an invention of Christianity too, so I'm unclear how you're really distinguishing between a "true" Christian versus the "false" ones, who were the ones that came up with your sources to begin with. Are you sure that you're not the one who has been blinded by Satan by straying away from one of the more established Christian Churches? Not that they are very convincing either but your own personal testament on what is true or not seems to a bit odd - are you following Oneness theology?
