  • Infinitesimality issues

    @MayCaesar

    The desire for knowledge is never satisfied to the point of contentment. You're out of luck on that one. But the positive side is there is always unknowns to be explored and discovered. Then when you've exhausted a particular interest there are always other topics full of unknowns. As you pointed out, numbers solidify the fact possibilities are infinitely unimaginable and that's a good thing. The alternative is to arbitrarily label unknowns and resign oneself to ignorance. So you're in a good place. Enjoy.

    Anyway after sludging through more of @Joeseph and @Factfinder 's bombing of this thread with their standard atheist fare (chapters 11 and 16 from 'is God a Moral Monster') ,

    FF and I do not require a book regards Atheism.to constantly correct you and Rickey , common sense is all that's required.

    I'm glad to see you're now reading books on Atheism but still cannot a decent argument to defend your delusional world views.
    Paul Copan's book, Is God a Moral Monster?  is not an atheistic book.  It addresses the allegations that you made in your posts - specifically the ones about Amalekites, slavery, and does the Bible support rape.  I am happy to debate the topics with you, but you should not bomb a different topic with them.  If you want to make your argument about these issues, then create your own thread on them.  You tendency is that after you lose the debate, you bomb the topic with some off topic issue and then spend your energy on that.  For example, this topic is not about slavery, the Amalekites, or even does the Bible support rape, but about if there is inherently anything wrong with rape.  You instantly bombed the Christianity debate with the issue of evil - you asked why God allows children to be born with cancer.  That's not the topic the OP is talking about.  Again, create a new topic and debate that issue if you like.  Just respect others debates and don't change the topic.

    Indeed, it is quite telling that religious people have a hard time condemning clearly vicious things committed in the name of religion: "They were not true Christians/Muslims/Buddhists", "Their actions were justified", "God works in mysterious ways"... Somehow I have no trouble acknowledging crimes of atheists: Pol Pot or Joseph Stalin were horrible people and their actions cannot be excused. Leninists burning churches down after the October revolution and killing the monks were evil bastards. I can easily say that because I have little in common with those people, and our agreement on one narrow fantasy issue does not at all imply some kind of "brotherhood".

    Religious identity is different. A Christian will often speak for all Christians and against all atheists, Muslims, etc. They claim existence of free will, yet treat everyone as having hive minds.

    For once I agree with jack. Every time I come here, 90% of the threads on the front page are on religion. It is a very boring topic for very boring people.

    There's a few things to digest here, not least of all that atheism is not a religion, and that 'atheist' government is misleading. The argument around death tolls from 'atheist' beliefs is also highly misleading.

    The most obvious point to be had here is that as time has passed, and the methods and techniques of warfare have advanced, so too has urbanisation, population density, and the overall population itself. If the religious wars that swept across Europe were fought with modern weapons and current population sizes/density, the death tolls from those wars would be catastrophic. Imagine, if you will, those religious combatants had access to nuclear weapons.

    I do not know if not believing in Santa Claus makes me a loving and peaceful person. The bastard still owes me that toy I asked him for back when I was 8. If I ever see him... :rage:

    @Factfinder

    Interesting , I suspect  some incident or incidents turned this guy into a religious loon.

    The only defence I've ever heard even the most scholarly of Christians use is the " out of context" excuse or the " mistranslation " excuse where they are all suddenly experts in ancient languages ,all the verses depicting a kind benevolent god are accurate and the ones depicting god in a poor light (most) are deemed " poor translations"

    There was a rabbi on here years ago who accepted the good and the bad and hadn't got this notion of a perfectly good god , his position was a lot sounder in so many ways , he was also a decent sort and worth talking to.

    I just asked Rickey what version of the cult he follows , I've only ever had one member on here openly say what version of religion he followed  , the rabbi I mentioned who was on here was proud to tell what he followed and why.

    I lived in California for a few years and even Americans used to laugh at some of the religions that were prevalent there, my favourite was the holy rollers especially when two roller skating beauties attempted to coax me into joining , I resisted otherwise could have ended up like Rickets or Just Lyin

    Incidentally I don't know if you know a holy roller was normally Pentecostal who have and had a rep for gyrating and rolling on the floor when imbued with the spirit .....sounds just ideal for Rickey types.

  • Christianity

    @Factfinder ; Truly, I pity you and believe you are willingly ignorant, rather stu-pid by choice, arrogant, irresponsible...a loser...this is my observation of you.
    And yet you envy me so much you can't get enough. Meanwhile that doubt you harbor cause you can't prove you have a relationship with god by getting answers only you and you alone are privy to is burning inside you. If you can't move that mountain you have no faith and are hell bound. Your god knows you lack the faith.

  • Christianity

    @Factfinder ; No, I simply desired to know the Truth; therefore, I pursued same with fervor and found that Truth in the Gospel of John and I believed it and I believe it...you have nothing but emptiness and rhetoric and hate for the One who created you and died for you so that you can live....yours is the tragedy of prideful humanity.

    Yet you envy my intellect while you exalt great arrogance of believing in fairytales.
