  • The Problem of Evil

    @MayCaesar "In this sense, perhaps, even the God is limited in that she cannot by definition create a fully good Universe." Well that is true but when you say that, you are contradict the definition of a god (at least the god I am talking about). If you say that god is limited by something, then that means god is not all-powerful. And my argument was just for the all-powerful and all-good god.

     Plus, god is the one who created everything, including our own logic. An all powerful god can bend the rules of logic as he pleases. If he cannot, then he is not all powerful.

     To clarify, I do not think such a deity exists. I am just showing why there would be no bad if that deity existed.

    So in such cases the debater is not allowed to hop between multiple arguments, unless the currently debated argument is resolved.

     This was what I was trying to do, actually. I never responded to any of his other points unless he either proves me wrong or admits that he cannot prove me wrong. The problem with this is that he took neither option. He either ignored me alltogether or marked my arguments as "funny".

     I am really curious as to what exactly, from a psychological standpoint, causes these people to act this way. Because it is not just a matter of clinging to the idea that the earth is flat, they cannot accept that they were wrong about anything at all. They claim that they are rationalists but when you actually show that they are wrong, they resort to: "nuh-uh" for an answer.

  • Is Evolution Real?

    @Sand ;
    1- Learn how to make logical arguments.
    2- Learn physics.
    3- Learn biology.

     What you have just written is complete nonsense and it is very clear that you have no idea what evolution even is.

    @Erfisflat By the way, the sun cannot be setting due to downwards refraction. Even if we assume that the light somehow gets refracted, this would not comport with reality.

     According to this idea, if you were on a high building and experienced a sunset, you can just come down that high building to experience the same sunset again. But, in real life, we observe the opposite of this. We do not see further the lower we are, we see further the higher we are.

    @MayCaesar Well, letting him make these insane assumptions and then showing him why they do not work is more fun. Even we accept the existence of an impossible dome that somehow refracts light in a way that makes the sun not change size throughout the day, it still does not make a flat earth possible.
